L’Oranger
L’Oranger is a network based in the Plateau Mont-Royal that responds to the issues surrounding homelessness and cohabitation, by forging links between all the community.
At Plein Milieu, we believe that individuals should never be seen as problems. We believe that every person should be able to be themselves and to fulfill their potential within society, which is better for it. However, for people experiencing homelessness or using drugs, this remains difficult.
Having confirmed the favorable impact of a positive relationship between shop owners and street people, we saw the relevance of creating l’Oranger.

Everyone’s role
Homelessness is everyone’s business! With this in mind, each member does his or her part:
Shop owners’ role
-
- Socially responsible merchants offer free services that meet the needs of people experiencing homelessness. They create connections with these people by welcoming them into their establishments.

Citizens’ contribution
- Citizens demonstrate their solidarity by exercising their purchasing power in businesses that act according to shared values.
- They encourage inclusiveness by reaching out to people experiencing homelessness in places where they are welcome.
- Two citizens who have experienced or are experiencing homelessness act as Sowers. They act as ambassadors, fueling the project with their local knowledge and experience, and promoting the network’s services to other local residents and stakeholders.
Professional support
-
- Plein Milieu’s social mediation workers support the involvement of shopkeepers through training, coaching and regular follow-up.
- Plein Milieu provides increased visibility of the businesses, providing them with a solid network and effective promotional tools.
